Military Robotics
Sixth interdisciplinary research seminar 2RSHS.
This session is organised by Yann Ferguson (Inria), Guillaume Morel (Sorbonne University UPMC) and Caroline Moricot (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne). Charly Pécoste and David Rodriguez (Icam Toulouse) both organise and moderate the session, which takes place within the framework of the interdisciplinary subject matter Acculturation – Methodology.
Summary
This sixth seminar session of the 2RSHS network focuses on the theme of military robotics. Through two presentations at the intersection of Engineering Sciences and the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), this session will attempt to answer the following questions: What concrete applications and uses of robotics are employed in training and in the field within the armed forces? How do the major narratives surrounding robotics shape the perceptions associated with its deployment in the military sphere? Do these perceptions influence national strategies for the development of military robotics?
The online speeches will be:
- 1st speech: “From the concepts of military robotics use to the challenges of autonomy: the command challenge“
Gérard de Boisboissel: Research engineer, director of the New Technologies Challenges for the Armed Forces observatory at the Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan Military Academy research center (CReC Saint-Cyr). Gérard de Boisboissel has been working on military robotics, the autonomy of armed systems, AI, and the augmented soldier since 2010. - 2nd speech: “Between imaginaries and international strategies for the development of military robotics“
Jean Frances: Lecturer and researcher at ENSTA Bretagne and PhD in sociology specializing in the study of innovation processes within the armed forces.
Brad Tabas : Lecturer and researcher at ENSTA Bretagne and PhD in comparative literature specializing in exploring the political, social, ethical and ecological issues raised by new technologies, and in particular space technologies.
To doctoral students: it is possible to validate training credits, subject to the approval of your Doctoral School. To do so, simply send a training certificate from your Doctoral School to 2rshs@sciencesconf.org and attend the seminar to complete the attendance questionnaire distributed during the session. The completed form will then be returned to you by email.
The entire session is recorded (including discussions).
The replays will then be freely available on the 2RSHS network website: https://2rshs.sciencesconf.org/?lang=fr and on PEPR O2R YouTube channel
