The objectives of the IMM project are to develop a new versatile interactive mobile manipulator, capable of indoor/outdoor navigation for industrial and agricultural applications likewise, while guaranteeing its successful integration in society. These two goals (technological and societal) will go hand-in-hand throughout the project duration, thanks to an iterative process, consisting of reciprocal and regular exchanges between roboticists and social/humanity scientists. To achieve this, we have set up an interdisciplinary consortium, covering a broad spectrum of research topics, including robotics, sociology, ergonomics, communication science and anthropology.
Methodologically, we will start our studies on existing platforms, which have been developed over the past ten years in France, and have demonstrated their efficiency and robustness in quasiecological situations. Then, we will gradually transfer the acquired knowledge (both technological and societal) towards the new IMM, which will demonstrate the project results at the end of these exciting 96 months.
